My Recruits Report - 10.09.2020

As we rolled into Week 2 of the Arizona Football Season, and Mid Season of Games in other states, there were a lot of questions to be answered. Can some of the Record Breaking performances be duplicated? Will players who were rusty out of the gate get loose and dominate as everyone expected?

The My Recruits Staff is super proud of it’s Student Athletes that have been killing it in stats all over the map! Coach Perrone said “As a former OL Coach, I believe it doesn't get done on the Offensive side of the ball without the big boys, so after watching 50+ hours of OL film on the My Recruits Bigs, let’s honor some guys in the trenches.”

We are going to start out in Phoenix Arizona where the Deer Valley Skyhawks are off to a 2-0 start and one of the biggest reasons is their O-Line. Tackle, Brandon Schwartz, is on fire! The 6’4 260LB athletic young man who recently picked up a D-2 Offer from SouthWest Minnesota State, looks better than ever. Another reason the Skyhawks are grinding up front is 2022 Center, Damien Marquez. The 6’2 310lb monster in the middle is nasty and smart, a combination that coaches love at Center. Another Phoenix AZ OL Combo that is playing on another level are the duo from Greenway High School. 2022 OL Zach Bauer and 2021 OL Brent Kenyon anchor one of the best Offensive Lines in the State that has paved the way for last weeks My Recruits Player of the Week Christian Johnson to the tune of 600 YDS and 7 TDs in 2 games. I had a chance to catch up with Greenway Head Coach Ed Cook who said “This OL I have this year is really playing well together. The scary thing is Kenyon is the only Senior!”

Staying in the Trenches, we had a chance to catch 2 guys live in action this past week. Mountain Ridge Offensive Guard Sean Sisco and Desert Ridge Tackle Jackson Condie. Both players are class of 2021 and both are experienced, athletic and high academic studs! Watching these guys confirmed they are definitely ready for the next level. Closing out the Offensive Line Report, Cactus High School Guard, Mason Cullop who is a class of 2022, is turning coaches heads as his Junior Season is off to a quick start, Stepping out of State for our last OL Payton Brady-Britton out of Michigan, is as he likes to say “serving up pancakes” all game long! A true statement. If anyone’s keeping score, he may lead the state in Pancakes.

Switching to the My Recruits Skills players on Offense, there was another great week of QB play turned in by the My Recruits signal callers. Highlighted by Pennsylvania Phenom, Lek Powell out of Bishop McDevitt High School. Powell was 23/37 for 335 YDS and 5 TDs and is having a record breaking season. Another out of state QB who all he does is Win Win Win, is Windsor High Schools (Missouri) QB Kenton Sargent who threw for 130 YDS and 1 TD and has his team 7-0.

Now for the AZ Flamethrowers, starting with Liberty’s Brock Mast (19/27, 221 YDS, 2 TDs). Mast has the Lions back on track heading into week 3. 6’5 Desert Ridge Senior, Austin Kolb, played his first game of the season going an impressive 10/15, 158 YDS and 2 TDs and adding 1 Rushing TD. Kolb is no stranger for big numbers, throwing for over 3,000 YDS his Junior Year. 3 more My Recruits QB’s deserving some recognition are Notre Dame Prep’s Tyler Schweigert (150YDS, 2 TDs), Mesa Mountain View’s Willy Roberts (230 YDS, 4 TDs) and Sandra Day O’Connor’s Seth Felts (247 YDS, 2 TDs). These three continue to impress.

As we move to the backfield, no stranger to the End Zone, Greenway’s Christian Johnson had 259 YDS and 3 TDs in the victory over Estrella Foothills bringing his 2 week total to 600+ YDS and 7 TDs. The next 3 RBs will take us out of State as Texas workhorse Romelo Portillo played his first game of the season and showed us why he has 20+ Offers as he tallied a smooth 150 YDS and 1 TD in his Senior Debut. Florida Junior Jason Albritton, from Newsome High School out of Tampa, had a 100 YD performance with 2 TDs but Windsor High School Runningback, Dalton Witherspoon was extremely impressive this past week, running for 183 YDS and 3 TDs. This young man is getting the attention of coaches fast!

Some Wide Receivers got in on the act as well as Mesquite High School’s Eric Lira had 4 catches for 105 YDS and 3 TDs, bringing his 2 game total to 6 catches, 5 of which were TDs. Another WR who is shining not only on Offense but on Special Teams, is Basha High School Stand-Out, Carson Bachman who had a stunning 98 YD Kick Return in Week 2.

Moving to the side of the ball that wins titles (Defense), here is a list of a few players who caught our attention: Peoria’s Brendan Heard (12 TOT, 1 Sack), and Casa Grande’s Dematris Azcueta (8 TOT, 1 FF, 6 PBU). Desert Ridge’s Monster DL Dante Smith had too many stats to post. Let’s just say it was an impressive night. Closing out on Defense, Cactus High School DT Ethan Price is hitting his stride with 4 TFLs and 3 Sacks. Price is getting interest from Cornell University in New York.

As we know every week we here at My Recruits pick 2 Players of the Week who become eligible for the My Recruits Scholarship. This week, both are coming out of Sandra Day O’Connor High School in Phoenix Arizona as WR JD Groff who currently holds a Yale Offer had 5 catches for 135 YDS and 2 TDs and looked amazing. And on Defense, 2022 Middle Linebacker, Brandon Craddock who just made the Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club Watch List for the Ed Dougherty Award had an amazing game which came down to the last play. Craddock had 19 TOT, 4 TFL, 1.5 Sacks and 1 FF. This young man has officially established himself as a premier player in the State of Arizona.
