More Than Just A Sack

In today's era of Football Recruiting, NCAA Football Coaches are looking for more than just ability. The question that they ask most often is "What else does this young man possess that can make our program better?".

One thing is certain about Collin Thompson; he brings a lot to the table!!! As a sophomore at Safford High School, Collin was second on the team in tackles and led the team in sacks, earning Honorable Mention All-Region in the process. With Collin having to sit the first half of his Junior Season due to transferring to Thatcher High School not one step was lost and made a huge impact late in the season, most importantly in the state championship game in which they were victorious.

Now that we have some background on Collin Thompson; the question remains, what does he bring to the table? Well I guess the first thing we can discuss is size and athleticism. Collin is a true 6'2'', 240 lb Defensive Lineman who has the versatility to play any position on the Defensive Line. Collin is a great speed edge rusher which led to 15 sacks this season. As far as athleticism goes, Collin is a multi-sport athlete and a very special basketball player who averages 17 points & 9 rebounds per game.

One of the most important questions is what does Collin bring to the table academically? Well, let's answer that question. Collin brings A current GPA to the table which is a staggering 3.96 and is a pretty good test taker too, registering a score of 30 on his ACT. Collin also has already received 30 college credits including Calculus, Biology and English.

Something to not overlook is the time Collin Thompson spends volunteering to help others. In the last 12 months, Collin has worked with the local Rotary Club, his Church and the local Food Bank helping those less fortunate.

Collin currently holds upwards of 17 offers including Western New Mexico, Redlands, Macalester, Grinnell, Rhodes, Carleton, Pacific, Puget Sound, Southern Virginia University, Bates, North Western Iowa, Ripon, Rose Hulman, Trinity Bible, Concordia Minnesota, and multiple teams in the HJCAC. With education being a top priority in Collin's decision leading up to signing day, there are plenty of schools to choose from a top academic and athletic standpoint. With multiple FCS Schools reaching out late, it will be very interesting to see who lands this top prospect.
