The Quarterback You Should Know!
Brayden Downen is a QB at Lakewood High School (CA), from Long Beach, CA, a hard-nosed, versatile QB that performs best in the spread! He balances his offseason workouts with time on the field throwing (including 7 on 7 work) and 5 days a week of weight training. Brayden rises to the occasion in adversity and maintains a steady demeanor regardless of the situation. He’s been his team MVP and led the team in yards gained every year of high school. Statistically, he loves spreading the ball around to his teammates, with 20 touchdowns as a freshman, did not play his sophomore year due to Covid restrictions, but came back as a junior with 19 touchdowns, and rarely, if ever, throws interceptions---the ball finds his receivers’ hands every time! He is part of the class of ‘23 and has been a starter since his Freshman year, leading the team in passing and rushing.
Brayden describes himself as coachable, with the motivation to drive to his full potential. He gets along well with his teammates and loves his coaches. Brayden has allowed any adversity that he’s faced to contribute to his growth as a person.
On film, Brayden is very patient in the pocket and allows enough time for plays to develop, until he sees the opportunity to get the ball to his receiver. He has great presence and won’t break the pocket, even if it begins to collapse. He carries through on his fakes and his size gives him an incredible advantage in having vision over the line. When he does need to scramble, he has a nose for where the first down marker (or endzone) is every time, and will reach across and give that extra effort for his team!
